Hmmm, I just looked up the new firmware, thanks for the heads up. I don't know if I want to immediately try it out though until I know it is stable. Anyone try it out yet?

I really don't have much probs with my current v5.021 firmware. They don't really mention what they fix or what features it adds or enhances. Beware that they do mention that once you apply this update. You cannot go back to any previous update! Here is a cut and paste from their download site: Changes/Enhancements for Version 5.03 Fixed wireless compatibility issues with Centrino-based systems Fixed various minor issues Note: After upgrading to 5.03 code, the router cannot be downgraded to any previous firmware version.

Any brave souls out there willing to try it out and report? I'm wondering if I'm experiencing a similar issue.

I just installed the Netgear MR814v2 and I've already flashed the 5.03 firmware. I was previously using a Linksys DSL/Cable router. Since replacing the Linksys with the Netgear MR814v2, I've noticed a slowdown in the serving of pages from my webserver. I have port forwarding enabled to allow access to the webserver. My ISP is Bellsouth.net. The Netgear MR814v2 connects to a Westell A90 that's configured as bridged-ethernet. PPPoE DSL is established by the Netgear MR814v2.

Dgm If I read that correctly, you are trying to access your own IP from your computer that is behind the router. This router does not support 'loopback', I believe it's called, so trying to access your own IP will be agonizingly slow.

Hello folks and Happy New Year 2004! I just want to say that I have tried this new v5.03 firmware and it seemed to work fine compared to my V5.021 firmware. Basically the same in all respects that I am concerned with except for one big noticeable difference. I have a Palm Tungsten C handheld wi-fi PDA that I use and with the new V5.03 firmware installed on my MR814v2 router, I am now having difficulties connecting to the network with the Palm T/C when the signal strength meter reading is medium to weak.

With the older Netgear firmware V5.02x there was no problem at all connecting reliably!!! The new V5.03 firmware seems to have affected either the signal strength RF transmitter output (decreasing it) or they further complicated their wireless protocol such that the Palm T/C 802.11b signal protocol has too many errors and refuses to connect anymore. Only when I have a strong signal strength at the Palm T/C handheld unit will it connect and start talking. So, to test this theory and observation out I decided to take the chance to try and reload the older firmware version 5.021. Of course Netgear made it so that you cannot go back to the older firmware below V5.03 once you install V5.03, so the attempt to downgrade back to V5.021 fails to load into the router.
