Apr 16, 2011 M1 Garand British Lend Lease Question I recently acquired this Garand from a friend. The rifle looks like new and has a barrel date of. Springfield Armory M1 Garand, Lend-Lease Rifle. Just in on consignment from a close friend and fellow collector. This is SA 325934 that he found on the open market. A few months ago my dad and I purchased a M1 Garand at our local gun show. The guy we bought it from told us it was part of the lend-lease deal done by Roosevelt. Page 1 of 3 - Lend Lease M1 Garand - posted in FIREARMS & ORDNANCE: Here is the pride of my collection. It is a LL Garand that once belonged to the founder of the GCA.

All of the Lend Lease Garands had walnut stocks with a GHS cartouche and an Ordnance mark. The British painted a red band around the front handguard and a '30' or '300' on the red band to denote the caliber difference from the British cal 303. Many of the Lend Lease stocks have had the red band and the cartouche and Ordnance mark removed by their private owners. Warframe Platinum Hack V3.1. I seriouly doubt the British used any Birch replacement stocks. And when your rifle was proofed (1955), the US wasn't even using Birch replacement stocks. Are you sure that stock is Birch?

I can't tell from the photos. Does it have a short or long barrel channel? And is there a one or two digit number in the barrel channel? Photos would really help. Lend Lease Garands are some of the few M1 rifles that can still be found in their original condition as they left the factory. One with a beautifully cartouched stock that still had the British red band on it recently sold at auction for more than $4,000! I was told at sometime, somewhere, that Sam Cummings bought the lend lease garands from england and they were stamped with the british proofs at two different proof houses(?).

Mine is serialed 456326, and the 'GHS' and ordnance wheel are very clear. Mine also has the flush nut sights.

Your lockbar sights are appropriate according to what I remember of Scott Duffs book. The lockbar started right about 500,000.

Your stock is walnut, not birch. Your op rod looks like mine which is an uncut 3rd revision, Duff's new book says yours should be 3rd also. The rear handguard clip should be grooved. I can't quite see yours, but I can almost see the groove possibly there. The lower band should be arched, once again I can't quite see yours good enough to tell.

My rear clip was replaced with the replacement handguard, I assume to get rid of the painted one. Finding a grooved one is not cheap. The are on ebay for about 60- 80 dollars. The arched lower bands are not cheap either. More detailed pics would help. I will be doing pics of mine soon after the holidays. Hope this helps, everything is out of Duff's reference books and they are indespensable, for this hobby.
