Esordito nel 1985 con il singolo Amy Grant e l'EP 22 Disasters (Necessity), il gruppo sfoggiava un sound dimesso, incerto, ambiguo, sulla falsariga dei, aumentato da melodie e armonie dal fascino quasi grandioso. Canzoni orecchiabili e cadenzate come Tools Of The Trade e Hope In Anchor li fecero assimilare al revival del folk-rock (, ), ma in realta` il loro jingle-jangle era limitato alla timida chitarrina del leader e in ogni caso il loro folkrock era influenzato dal punkpop dei Buzzcocks e dal garage-rock, come dimostrato nell'anthem del disco, Ask Me Another, con un trascinante riff chitarristico e un ritornello vibrante.

L'eclettismo del duo era evidente anche nell'orientaleggiante Trouble Time, con violoncello e armonie vocali di Torgeson (l'insieme ricorda i Family) e nella title-track, che l'organo di Torgeson trasforma in una canzone atmosferica alla Joy Division.
